Back on the podium at Cadwell

Amanda Whitaker took a podium place at Cadwell Park this weekend driving Amaron Racing's recently restored Elden Mk 8 Formula Ford 1600. It was the first time she was racing the car since it was badly damaged in her huge crash at Mallory Park in August 2009.

Thankfully, she showed the car still had all of the original competitiveness by qualifying and racing to 3rd behind rising stars Darren Burke and Ben Simms. The race was a two part affair, the first start being red flagged while Amanda was running in 2nd. Although at the restart Amanda made a poor getaway to drop initially to 5th, she soon retook 4th and then clawed her way back onto the podium by overtaking David Wilds 4 laps from the end.

In the first time racing Amaron's newly acquired Tiga Formula Ford 2000, she qualified a surprising 5th overall in a 26 car grid & 2nd in class, despite her only having 6 laps in the car since purchase, having little setup work and being well over the minimum weight limit! She dropped to 8th at the start but managed to gain 7th spot and was hot on the heels of those ahead until the engine failed, causing a DNF.

"I'm pleased to make a good start to the year, despite the problems. We had a hectic weekend running two cars but we had a good time and I'm looking forward to Croft this coming weekend" she said.
