Amanda back to racing with 4th

Amanda Whitaker came back to racing just 3 weeks after her horrific Mallory Park crash with 4th place at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting in Cheshire.

Racing in a Elden Mk8 Formula Ford car loaned to her by fellow competitor & friend Chris Alford after her own was badly damaged, she qualified 7th on the grid - a little off her normal pace, but she was running with a setup design for wet conditions and so struggled with handling.

However, she made a good start to the race to jump up to 4th place, and armed with a better choice of setup, she initially joined the battle for 2nd place with David Wild and Robert Wainwright. However, she struggled with braking balance problems and with the knowledge that she simply needed to score points for the title battle, she settled for a risk free 4th place which she held to the end of the race.

"We had a lot of obstacles to overcome to just do this race - my fitness, getting the car ready, etc. So I'm really just happy to be racing again!"  said Amanda.

In the absence of main title rival Westie Mitchell who is still recovering from his injuries sustained at Mallory Park, Amanda has closed to within a few points of the HSCC Formula Ford Championship lead. She next races at Brands Hatch in a fortnight.
